Five Elements, Six Conditions: A Taoist Approach to Emotional Healing, Psychology, and Internal Alchemy Gilles Marin the author of this book knows what he is talking about. His format is well laid out and the progression of the book is logical. There are many beautiful charts and visual guides throughout the book. At no point does Mr. Marin come from his ego--he always stays true to the subject and presents the material in a compassionate manner. Although, the book is recommended for practitioners of Chinese Medicine I think it can be of great help to the lay person that is seeking to have a deeper understanding of what has caused disease in them and methods that could be used to help them truly heal. Hopefully this would give them the discernment needed to find a professional that could help them facilitate true healing versus one that would just apply another bandage.

I absolutely loved the book. I had very high expectations and when I recieve it my first response was 'is that it?' This was until I started reading the book. Reading the book, I saw that it was a lot. It has a very nice and pure explanations of the elements and everything. It gives the basic and most vital information. The language is beautiful. I enjoy it so much that it reminds me of the beautiful colorful primary school books and I summarize while reading. Even I make translations to my own language.I definitely recommend the book who are interested in the taoist elements and point of view. There are very very simple and effective meditatons in the book. I preferred to record them slowly then do the meditations listening those voice memo's. They really really are enjoyable.It clearly and basically explains a lot of the taoist point of view. I think that every individual sentence has a relevence. Nothing is unnecessarily or overwhelmingly explained. I loved the images and colorful stuff, too. I was interested in Feng Shui before and I am a yin yoga teacher. I enjoyed the way the elements and meridians were stated.I recommend this book to anyone who has an interest on the subjects of healing, toaist perspective and meditation. If you have already read a lot on the subject it may be a little bit elementary but if you are mixed about all you have read it may help you rearrange everything in your mind and bring an ease of understanding.Sliming; happy and healthy days to all!!Namaste

I took this book out of the package as soon as it arrived in the mail and could not put it down until I was finished. It contains a lot of easy-to-understand information relating to the five elements and the conditions associated with the elements and helped me to gain a better understanding of the subject in general. I would recommend this book to student's of TCM and professionals alike.

This is a must have for the emotional aspects of TCM. Had it before and gave away my copies because of how useful these books are. Thank you

Excellent book. It explains the theory very clearly in a very accessible way. As a patient it helps understand the background. I had some knowledge of the five elements, this book brought more in-depth knowledge.

It comes with some good illustrations. I got it because its “approach” to psychology, but it is not a book for western psychologists. It has nothing to do with western psychology. It is for those who already have acknowledgements on Oriental Medicine and need to know more about the Taoism way of life. I already have some books of five elements but all of them have something missing. There is a lack of good books in English on this subject. We need more translation from original books that can be found in China.

I have been buying this publication since the 1970's. Over time it seems to come out later and later in the election cycle - the profiles of the new members of Congress don't tell you much about how they have conducted themselves even though they've been in office for at least a year, so you are left with their bios and not much insight into how they will fare in the future. Be advised that the great authors of the past, particularly Michael Barone, are long gone and the current ones are nowhere near as impressive. Finally, what may seem a minor quibble - lots of typos - is exacerbated by the fact this book now costs close to $100. I'll keep buying them because there's still no major competitor but getting the new one is not the treat it used to be.

Almanac of American Politics is a good guide dealing with Congress and a nice overview of each states politics.It does have quite a few type o's, and the ratings are not as complete as past almanacs were.Overall, this almanac is good but not as good as past almanacs were due to the writing is not as well done as earlier editions.

This is a must have book for people who enjoy following politics and politicians.

The Almanac has several new features since the 2016 Edition. The best new feature is “Almanac Ratings” for each Representative and Senator, showing where they stand “Liberal” or “Conservative” on votes relating to the Economy, to so-called Social Issues and to Foreign Policy. As fundraising letters arrive from around the Country, it provides a trustworthy wide-screen view look at how the incumbent votes and, therefore, whether she or he is someone whose career you would like to truncate or extend. Most of that decision turns on whether the letter than follows the public servant’s name is ‘D’ or ‘r’, but sometimes further refinement is useful.

I'm finally reading the bible and it is easy to understand. I wanted to read it to make my own adult decision regarding this religion.

I really like the feel and look of this book! The crown on the cover is a nice touch. The size of the book is great. It's slim so fits nice for travel. Words are a good size for me but if you have trouble seeing get the giant print. But it's missing a few things. Good quality. It is slightly larger than an iPad mini. The tooled leather design is lovely and feels soft and of high quality. The large print is fantastic and easy to read. I love the metallic silver page edging. The dictionary/concordance is definitely not exhaustive but is a plus in any Bible. I wanted a more straightforward read than my amplified version and this works perfectly for me. I am extremely well satisfied with this purchase, especially at a $24.44 price. Priceless words at a priceless value.

The print is so tiny. Other than that, it's a nice version of the Bible. I've added a photo for comparison of size.

I like the large life application section. It also has a reading plan that may or may not come in handy. The cover is nice. What I don't like is that there is really no space to write notes. I also wish they had started books on a separate page rather than immediately following the previous one mid page. The margins are 1/4" and the general layout is what you would find in a bible from the dollar store. The size of print is fine for me but it is not really large print. Also, the couple pages of advertising at the end is a bit tacky. For what I was wanting, I would have passed on this one if I had seen the inside.

This was a gift for my husband, he loves it! He has been struggling to read his study bible because of the small font, this one is much easier for him to read. He likes the color (I was afraid it was too feminine) and was pleased with the introduction of each of the books of the bible.

I previously owned a NLT Personal Sized Bible that wore some holes in the cover, so decided to replace it. My first NLT had much smaller type but was readable and very compact. I loved it.I took a chance on this without being able to see a sample page. (Please, Amazon and Bible printers, provide sample pages for your Bibles!) I own a NRSV Bible with 12 point type, so figured that the new NLT would be close in size. Now that I have the NLT, comparing them together, the NLT's text actually appears larger than the NRSV. It's very large all right. I see Tyndale had their font designed for them, Lucerna, that has a very large x-height. (The term x-height refers to the height of the lowercase x in a given typeface at any given size.) The large x height makes the font seem larger and for most people more readable. My personal taste would have preferred a 11 pt font size, plenty big but still very readable. This would have reduced the thickness of the Bible somewhat and also would have fit better within the page layout. But for those who wish to shed their reading glasses, they won't be disappointed here.I try not to buy red letter version Bibles. I find the red print distracting and really not needed. Also, often times in the printing, the red can become lightened into a more pinkish color and very hard to read. This version NLT, however, seems to have a consistent dark red (no pink) throughout which is very readable. A very big improvement.The binding and cover seem very durable. I actually prefer the imitation leather cover over real leather. This version is a two toned brown so will be appropriate for both men and women. There also are versions in pink and brown etc. for the ladies. The paper thickness is just about right. Thin enough to keep the thickness of the Bible reasonable but opaque enough to block out MOST of the reverse side text from bleeding through. I have had premium Bible paper so thin that the bleeding through of the opposite side's text made for difficult reading.The translation I believe is a very good one. It utilizes a thought for thought style of translation that some would consider paraphrasing. However, this type of translation often can make obscure biblical language crystal-clear compared to a more woodenly literal translation. The translation was made by a large number of front ranking evangelical biblical scholars and then fine-tuned by editors who honed the English style and fluidity. Consequently, the NLT would make a great reading Bible, especially for reading large chunks of the Bible at a time. Of course, use more than one translation (zillions of them free online) but this translation is a great one in the arsenal. For another highly readable and accurate translation that rivals the NLT, check out the recently completed Common English Bible.Glad to see Bible printers upping the print size. It seems incredulous to me that people would want to read the itty-bitty font size of so many of the compact Bibles these days. I can heartily recommend this version of the NLT as a very readable choice for a Bible.

This is not a review of the Holy Bible nor of this translation, as the former is of course a 5 star. This is a complaint that the texts wraps way too close to the binding at the center, and there's not enough spacing there. Ever since my nephew/godson was born I have always given him a car calendar for Xmas/birthday (December baby). He is now 31. He liked this one so 5 stars. Originally I tried to find truck calendars as he drove trucks for awhile for a living but now any fun car calendar works. I like these classic cars myself.

Here in Brazil, I read this good book. This book comes from a diary of the Jew, Lithuanian and anarchist Alexander Berkman (1870 - 1936). This good book begins in the lasts weeks of 1919, at the aftermath of the Russian Revolution of 1917. On chapter XIII of this book, writen in March 1920 Berkman and Emma Goldman meet Lenin, whom Berkman describes as speaking these sentences: "The peasant doesn't like us. Lenin They are backward and strogly imbued with the sense of private ownership. That spirit must be discouraged and erradicated."This book describes the Leninist Soviet Union as a mafiacracy under the command of Lenin. There's fear, famine end suffering for the people and the communists with luxes and privileges. A woman of Moscow that the author was fried in Tzar's times saw her mother and two brothers to die of famine during Lenin's government.Among the more than one thousand book that I read today, just about a dozen books are mainly about Lenin's government. And this book is a good primary source, about Lenin and his mafiacracy. Tcheka gives fear for all people's persons, while Tcheka is also the commander of corruption. To robber and to be the only police at the same time was the Cheka's mission and this Satanic instituition made these missions at the same time, during Lenin's government.This good book ends in September 1921 with Alexander Berkman's decision to leave Russia, described in these sentences: "Gray are the passing days. One by one the embers of hope have died out. Terror and despotism have crushed the life born in October.... Dictatorship is trampling the masses under foot. The Revolution is dead; its spirit cries in the wilderness.... I have decided to leave Russia."

The Bolshevik Myth by Alexander Berkman is an interesting primary source which sheds an insider's look at the earliest phase of Communism in Russia. Berkman was a long-time anarchist who was deported in 1920 from the United States to Russia. The deportation was part of a mass deportation of leftist foreign radicals after the original "Red Scare" and "Palmer Raids" of the post-World War I period. Berkman and other well-known foreign born leftists, including Emma Goldman, as well as other, less well-known revolutionaries, were put on the transport ship, the USAT Buford, and sent to Revolutionary Russia.Berkman captures the excitement of leftist revolutionaries who are like Moses looking at the Promised Land. Berkman and his fellow Buford group look at Revolutionary Russia as the great end to which they have been striving their entire lives. All had been imprisoned for their leftists beliefs and many had been beaten for those beliefs and most had surrendered anything resembling a normal life for the sake of The Revolution. Russia would be the consummation of the dreams of their lives.The scales fall of their eyes quickly. Even though many of them are competent tradesmen, they cannot find work because of the incompetence and inefficiencies of the Bolshevik system. They spend months with no work, receiving a minimal "pyock" (ration) and are reduced to selling their American goods into the black-market to survive, even though the Bolsheviks have outlawed private trading on penalty of imprisonment. Over the course of the book, Berkman recounts at various times how this Buford deportee had been sent to Siberia and that Buford deportee had been shot without due process by the Tcheka. The Eschaton that the leftist Revolutionaries awaited was not the one they had spent years in exile waiting for.Berkman's work is priceless for his ability to tell a story that spans the gap between the average, forgotten Russian and the upper reaches of Bolshevik society. Bekman meets and interacts with Lenin, Kamenev, and Zinoviev. He meets Peter Kropotkin and Bertrand Russell, who was visiting Russia as part of a delegation of Labor representatives who visited Russia in order to get information in order to promote the lifting of the Allied blockade. Berkman also attends the funeral of John Reed (who was the hero of Warren Beatty's hagiographic "Reds," which was nominated for the Oscar for Best Picture in 1981.)The Russia that Berkman entered was still in the throes of the Russian Civil War. White generals were still fighting in the Ukraine and in the North. The Allies were still enforcing a blockade against the Communists. Berkman is there when the Civil War ends and the long-suffering people of Russia expect the Bolsheviks to finally back off their war time measures, only to be disappointed when the Bolsheviks decide to promote what they feel is a return to the master they had thought they had gotten rid of with the Revolution. Berkman writes:Almost every otvetstvenny (responsible) Communist is gone to Moscow to attend the Ninth Congress of the Party. Grave questions are at issue, and Lenin and Trotsky have sounded the keynote --- militarization of labor. The papers are filled with the discussion of the proposed introduction of yedinolitchiye (one-man industrial management) to take the place of the present collegiate form. "We must learn from the bourgeoisie," Lenin says, "and use them for our purposes."  Among the labor elements there is strong opposition to the new plan, but Trotsky contends that the unions have failed in the management of industry: the proposed system is to organize production more efficiently. The labor men, on the contrary, say that the workers had not been given the opportunity, extreme State centralization having taken over the functions of the unions. yedinolitchiye, they claim, means complete charge of factory and shop by one. "Yedinolitchiye, they claim, means complete charge of factory and shop by one man, the socalled spets (specialists), to the exclusion of the workers from management.  "Step by step we are losing everything we've gained by the Revolution," a shop committee-man said to me. "The new plan means the return of the former master. The spets is the old bourzhooi, and now he is coming back to whip us to work again. But last year Lenin himself denounced the plan as counter-revolutionary, when the Mensheviki advocated it. They are still in prison for it."Berkman, Alexander (2010-02-22). Russian caviar, soup, white bread, two kinds of meat and a variety of vegetables were on the menu. When fried chicken was served, I saw some of the Britishers exchange wondering glances.  "A jolly good meal for starving Russia," a delegate at my side remarked to his neighbor in the lull of clattering dishes and laughter.  "Rather. The Bolsheviks oppressed the other leftists parties as badly - and more effectively - than had the capitalists.""We know it," he retorted; "but anti-Soviet handbills had been found in the factories, and my men thought they might have some connection with Tch---'s laboratory. But he stubbornly refused to answer questions."  "Well, that's an old practice of arrested revolutionists," I reminded him.  Bakaiev grew indignant. "That is why I'm holding him," he declared."Such tactics were justified against the bourgeois régime, but it is an insult to treat us so. Tch--- acts as if we were gendarmes."  "Do you think it matters by whom one is kept in jail?"  "Well, don't let us discuss it, Berkman," he said. "You don't know for whom you are interceding."  "And the other two men?"  "They were found with Tch---," he replied. Wonderfully silly kids story. Enjoyed by this adult.

Not anywhere near as funny as Wonkey Donkey. Kids would probably like it though. I couldn't finish reading it. Glad I didn't pay for it.

While it is true, as others have said, that this book resembles another fun story about a stinky donkey, it does have its own charm and small kids will love it. The illustrations help.

While very similar to another popular book about a donkey, it still had it's own tale, and was cute to read. I believe it to be a fun read for younger readers.
