Great for practicing sight reading, learning the piano as she recorded the tracks and follow the accompanying tabs I can practice on bass as well. One of my all-time favorite artists and these pieces are quality. Collected every one of the most difficult versions [Avoid the Easy Piano option if you're serious to learn her processes].

Songs are fairly easy for intermediate piano. Print is clear and easy to read with lyrics. My favorites to play are Sinners Prayer, Come To Mama, Angel Down, Diamond Heart, and Dancing in Circles.Songs are easy enough to learn to play yet challenged me artistically in a good way.

It is a wonderful songbook. Great for piano, vocal, and guitar. Easy to read. Comes with 13 of Lady Gaga's songs for the "Joanne" album. It came the day it said it would, and it came in good shape. It did have a bend in it when I got it, but no big deal. Overall great book,

The music is true to the recordings. It would have been nice to have some photos in the book as well, but it's a great memento to have of the album.

It was in perfect condition and is a great addition to my other songbooks by Gaga. A meaningful album for a subject long awaited. I love it.

I play guitar and this is perfect. Includes full chords throughout the song, not just at the top near the title. Love this album. Had to have the music! You can't go wrong with this purchase!

Arrived as described. Packaged well done.

Paddy and the Wolves: A Story about Saint Patrick When He Was a Boy, by Steve Nagel Jen Norton

Review

Catholic Library World: "Recommended for home, school, and public libraries" Young readers will relate to this popular saint....Readers will be challenged but not frustrated by the vocabulary. The plot is engaging and appealing to boys.Prayers, recipes, ideas to celebrate the feast of Saint Patrick, and facts about Saint Patrick's life are at the back of the book. The back cover can be used to play a game. Information about purchasing the corresponding coloring book is provided at the end of the book.Jen Norton's illustrations are colorful and detailed. Norton's folk art style is beautiful, classic, and effective artistic storytelling. The illustrations have many Christian signs and symbols. Each drawing invites the reader to spend time exploring the images.Prayers, mentions of Jesus, and other elements of Catholic faith in this story make it a strong choice for Catholic family and school bookshelves [emphasis added].Prayer, Wine, Chocolate: "... I love Jen Norton's work..." It's no secret that I love Jen Norton's work....Her style is friendly, inviting, fun and colorful. I feel like no matter how much I praise her talent with words, I cannot do it justice...The author not only allows the readers to get a glimpse of St. Patrick's childhood by revolving the story around shepherding, but also allows the child practice in sitting still!  The book is just long enough to catch my "almost 5" year olds attention...I read it to him once and he listened and went on his way. Another time my husband read it to him and I heard our little boy ask, "what does obey mean?"...My husband was able to explain the meaning of that word, and explain how it is important for children to obey their parents. Thank you, Steve Nagel, for that wonderful opportunity!Lovely Little Lives: "My daughters loved this book" My daughters loved this book. I sat down to read it to them and they listened intently to the whole story, even though it was a little longer than the stories I usually read to them. They are ages three and four and their attention span held throughout the story because the pictures are very colorful and detailed. This is an imaginative story about what it was like for St. Patrick as a boy. Life, Love, and Sacred Art: "...breathe new life into how you celebrate St. Patrick's day..." I am so thrilled to have been introduced to Paddy and the Wolves. It is a delightful children's book with gorgeous illustrations and will be a treasure for our collection for years to come. The best part of this book is that it encourages little ones to praise the Lord in a special way. If you want to breathe new life into how you celebrate St. Patrick's day this year pick up a copy this great book and it's coloring companion."Not So Formulaic: "...my whole family enjoyed it..."Nagel's gentle prose is designed for children in grades K-2, but my whole family enjoyed it....As for Nagel's included activities, I ate about half of the oatcake dough before it even went in the oven, and the girls had a great time playing the game on the book's back cover. As a homeschooling mom, I found the information at the end of the book most helpful. Nagel provides a fascinating biographical sketch, a recipe for the aforementioned (really tasty) oat cakes, and suggestions for celebrating St. Patrick's Day as a family. Nagel also adapts for little ones several of the prayers attributed to St. Patrick, including the powerful Lorica. Â

From the Author

The story of Paddy and the Wolves comes from my heart. My mother taught me my name in Gaelic. She could still speak some Gaelic having been raised in Nova Scotia, Canada--Scottish Gaelic maybe but nonetheless a bit of a shared history with Patrick, who had a Gaelic name but was not Irish. More importantly, I took a liking to Patrick in my reading his Confession. His voice is full of faith in God and doubt in himself. His feelings about his worth and work are undisguised. Patrick did great and good works but clearly they did not come cheap at the price.Patrick, Saint Patrick!, was not Irish?Patrick was not Irish by birth. Probably he was a Briton--one of the Gaelic-speaking people who lived in the west of Roman Britain, what's now Wales. We know he had a Gaelic name at birth. Hamlets and farmsteads dotted this coastal region as Patrick knew it. In his own words, he says his upbringing was "simple and rustic."So how did Patrick get to Ireland?Well, the first time he went to Ireland unwillingly. Patrick says, "When I was a rebellious sixteen-year-old, I was taken captive to Ireland along with many others." He was set to work shepherding. While he was a slave, Patrick prayed, he says, night and day. "It was there ...I turned with all my heart to the Lord my God...."When did Patrick become a priest and missionary? After six years as a slave and shepherd, Patrick escaped by boat but returned home a changed person. He had a vision in which the voice of the Irish people called to him "'We beg you, holy boy, to come and walk again among us.'" Patrick left his family again, trained as a priest, and returned to Ireland to bring the Christian faith to its people. Patrick persisted in his efforts for maybe forty years, and his mission met with all sorts of resistance. He was robbed, attacked, and imprisoned, but Patrick never gave up. He succeeded in converting thousands, he says--both chieftains and commoners. Before the Irish, no people had submitted to the Christian faith that were not within the Empire.Patrick didn't hate the people who made him a slave?Slavery was everywhere--at the time maybe a quarter of the population were slaves. Slaves were considered merely another kind of property in the ancient world. So it was at least uncommon and perhaps revolutionary that Patrick publicly contested slavery and pled the plight of women slaves, saying that they faced special threats and terrors. Patrick clearly detested slavery itself, in a way only a person who had been a slave might. Saint Patrick's prayer was not created by him...but it could have been. The Lorica of Saint Patrick is a prayer hymn attributed to Patrick. And it has the feel of traditional Irish blessings and prayers. But modern experts date it from the 700s. It is a prayer for protection--the word lorica means breastplate. A lovely tradition has it that the Lorica shielded Patrick and his companions from ambush by a chieftain's soldiers. Afterwards Patrick's group approached the chieftain chanting, "Let them that will, trust in chariots and horses, but we walk in the name of the Lord."What about the Saint Patrick's Day celebrations in America?Well, they began in the later 1700s in Boston, New York, and Philadelphia. Over the next century the celebration spread across the new nation. By 1900, Saint Patrick's Day parades became demonstrations of Irish Catholic pride and, later, of social and political power.   And it's fitting because at its heart stands Patrick, someone who defended the powerless and loved the Irish with all his heart.

Illustrations are gorgeous. Story starts off wonderfully and I was excited to see what happened next... but then the boy wandered off alone into the forest and could have been killed by wolves. Further, when the boy returned home, no one reprimanded the little boy for doing this. Why does that bother me? In the news all the time are kids who wander off and freeze to death, drown, die from exposure, are killed by wild animals, and taken by evil human beings.... There are time we find the kids alive, but most of the time we don't when they wander off into a forest alone. I am just concerned that some kids might read this book and want to go on their own adventure and even try to befriend wolves. There is a chance that their adventure may not end well... even if they know Jesus and pray to Jesus. Jesus is not a charm that means no evil will ever happen to you. Therefore, I am not quite sure if I will keep this book or not.

I was provided with a copy of Paddy and the Wolves by the publisher, Grace Watch Media. This doesn't impact my review, though: Paddy and the Wolves is an imaginative tale that sparked my children's imagination and inspired their creativity.Nagel’s story begins in the countryside of the British Isles with a young St. Patrick just too fidgety for prayer. When his mother sends him out to help Barra, the shepherd, Paddy’s encounters with nature reveal the importance of allowing Jesus to go before, beside, and behind him. While Paddy begins his afternoon adventure with Barra, the young saint eventually takes to solitary exploration of the nearby woods. God has given Paddy three great gifts: a mother who prays unceasingly; a mentor (Barra) who instructs him gently; and a deep, childlike abiding faith which leads him safely through interaction with a bear cub, a snake, and a hungry pack of wolves. Paddy returns home to his mother once the sojourn is over, but not before remembering to praise God for the beauty of his wondrous creation.Nagel’s gentle prose is designed for children in grades K-2, but my whole family enjoyed it. My girls (10 and 6) were immediately drawn to the wolf aspect of the narrative (go figure), and my son (2.5) spent several minutes ooh-ing and ahh-ing over Jen Norton’s lush illustrations. As for Nagel’s included activities, I ate about half of the oatcake dough before it even went in the oven, and the girls had a great time playing the game on the book’s back cover. As a homeschooling mom, I found the information at the end of the book most helpful. Nagel provides a fascinating biographical sketch, a recipe for the aforementioned (really tasty) oat cakes, and suggestions for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day as a family. Nagel also adapts for little ones several of the prayers attributed to St. Patrick, including the powerful Lorica.God has given us a great gift in the lives of the saints. Their humanity makes their wisdom accessible; their example makes our salvation attainable. Even those of us who start as fidgety, adventure-loving kiddos have the potential for sainthood. Kudos to Steve Nagel and the publishers at Grace Watch Media for bringing that reminder home.

Written for small children, I found myself, as the mother, extremely encouraged by this story. The story begins with a fidgety young boy, struggling to sit through the prayers his mama is saying, and as she sends him off for a day of adventure, he goes off with a prayer from her. Throughout the story, prayers this young Paddy has learned at home come back to him - a blessing of protection, a call to God to ask for help, and a prayer of thanksgiving. What this story imparted on me, as a mother, is that even if my young children are not sitting through my prayers, and they are not seeming to listen, the prayers and the message behind the prayers are sinking in their young minds. In regard to reaching younger audiences, my four year old son was emphatic he did not want to read a story about wolves, since he prefers dogs! However, as I read the story aloud, and expressed admiration for the pictures, I noticed he would surreptitiously peak over my shoulder, as he was drawn further into the story. The artwork and illustrations were beautiful, and the story was engaging, even with a recalcitrant preschooler! Furthermore, the end of the book shares extended prayers, and has a recipe and some family-friendly activities to help bring the story of Paddy (or, an older St. Patrick) to life. This book is also one with messages extending past St. Patrick's Day, so is suitable for reading year round.Great book, and I was honored to have been asked to write a review.

As an bookseller of 15 years, you can imagine the number of children's books I've read. This charming volume offers a wonderful story of St. Patrick with top notch illustration. (Oh...and I'm married to an Irish Catholic, so it has become a household favorite.) A must-have for religion-based preschool and elementary classrooms as well. I'd love to see more from this author and illustrator team.

This book is wonderful!! The story is a fantastic message for children, showing that Jesus is always with us if we listen to Him and choose to be with Him. The story if not overly complicated, so my 4 and 5 year olds follow it, but it has a very deep message. The illustrations are BEAUTIFUL! I would love to see more work by this author and illustrator!

A great book to help children learn about St. Patrick as a boy and to encourage faith and prayer in young children. The extra resources in the back of the book are also helpful to celebrate St. Patrick's day with family and friends.

Nice story especially for active boys

Great read for kids.

I am now reading, concurrently, chapter by chapter, three versions of the Tao Te Ching: Feng/English's, Stephen Mitchell's, and Ursula Le Guin's, which is my hands down favorite. I've owned the Gia-fu Feng/Jane English version for many years and I still love its clear and concise language, it's simple and direct style. Stephen Mitchell's version, in my side by side comparison, is seen to be a more interpretative rendition based on his own understanding of Lao Tzu's meaning. Rather than stay with Lao Tzu's imagery and metaphor, he packages it all up into a kind of exposition of the meaning he derives from those images. This approach may appeal to those wishing for a more conceptual understanding of this great work, but for me, it diminishes so much of the subtlety and a deeper intuitive conveyance of meaning that is only possibly through poetry. This is where Le Guin's version outshines and makes a quantum leap beyond the other two. She retains all the imagery, nuance and flavor of the poetry while capturing a feeling of playfulness and spontaneity. But beyond even that, I find that her ability to hold the paradox and enigma of Lao Tzu's mystical realization allows for a deeper, more inspired reading than the other two.To illustrate what I mean, please bear with me as I compare one stanza. This is Stanza 30 in the three versions:Mitchell:Whoever relies on the Tao in governing mendoesn't try to force issuesor defeat enemies by force of arms. For every force there is a counterforce.Violence even well intentioned, always rebounds upon oneself. The Master does his joband then stops. He understands that the universeis forever out of control, and that trying to dominate eventsgoes against the current of the Tao.Because he believes in himself,he doesn't try to convince others.Because he is content with himselfHe doesn't need others' approval.Because he accepts himself, the whole world accepts him.Feng/English:Whenever you advise a ruler in the way of Tao,Counsel him not to use force to conquer the universe. For this would only cause resistance.Thorn bushes spring up wherever the army has passed.Lean years follow in the wake of a great war.Just do what needs to be done.Never take advantage of power.Achieve results, but never glory in them.Achieve results, but never boast.Achieve results, but never be proud.Achieve results, because this is the natural way.Achieve results, but not through violence.Force is followed by loss of strength. This is not the way of Tao.That which goes against the Tao comes to an early end.Le Guin:A Taoist wouldn't advise a rulerto use force of arms for conquest;that tactic backfires.Where the army marchedgrow thorns and thistles. After the warcome the bad harvests.Good leaders prosper, that's all,not presuming on victory. They prosper without boasting,or domineering, or arrogance, prosper because they can't help it,prosper without violence.Things flourish then perish. Not the Way.What's not the Waysoon ends.Le Guin adds a note at the end of this stanza. She says, "The last verse is enigmatic: 'Things flourish then perish.'—How can this supremely natural sequence not be the Way?" She then directs the reader to another note under a later stanza where she picks up on Lao Tzu's use of a "baby" metaphor to describe how one following the Way acts in the world. She writes: "What is eternal is forever young, never grows old. But we are not eternal. It is in this sense that I understand how the natural, inevitable cycle of youth, growth, mature vigor, age, and decay can be "not the Way." The Way is more than the cycle of any individual life. We rise, flourish, fail. The Way never fails. We are waves. It is the sea."So, rather than change the actual words to make the meaning more intelligible to our conceptual understanding, as in Feng/English, or simply avoid the whole issue by presenting a loose rendition that doesn't follow the original so closely, as in Mitchell, Le Guin presents the enigma as it is and then ponders and digs deeper to try to grasp what Lao Tzu was truly saying. She goes beyond a facile, generic understanding and comes up with something exquisitely profound. The Way isn't about how we're supposed to act in the world. It isn't about us as individuals at all. The Way is beyond all the flourishings and perishings of the temporal world of form. To live in the Way is to live rooted in the timeless, unchanging essence of our Being which simply is, always. Feng/English's and Mitchell's versions don't come close to penetrating into this realization. This is an example of why I consider Le Guin's version to be superior to the others. One minor quibble: Le Guin tells us that the Chinese word "Te" is usually translated as Virtue. She translates it as Power throughout the book because she feels that the word Virtue in contemporary usage has lost its previous sense of "inherent quality and strength of a thing or person." I myself still prefer Virtue, maybe because I'm old fashioned and still think of Virtue in the old way, like the way Plato used it. Another word choice that I believe would convey the same meaning would be the "All-Good." That has both a feeling of Power and Virtue in it. As I said, it's a minor quibble.

This is a problematic book to review in many ways, of which I'll name only three.First, it is not a translation, for Le Guin readily admits that she knows no Chinese. Rather, it is a synthesis from a number of translations, made to (1) emphasize the poetry and (2) to be consistent with Le Guin's understanding of the Tao Te Ching. (Weirdly, I once, under the influence of general semantics, set out to do the same thing, but never got very far...) Thus, her choices are always open to question ... which might be a good thing, and certainly seems in keeping with the spirit of the Tao as best I understand it, which is very little.Second, this is not the first or the second, but something like the seventh rendering of the Tao Te Ching that I have read, partly for the reason suggested above, partly because I hoped through such diversity to achieve something like an understanding. (Up to now, my favorite translation has been that of Crowley, which Le Guin does not use as a source.)Third, and most telling, this is a book you don't just read. You live with it, like a good Bible or Bhagavad-gita. Having read it once, though carefully and ruminatively, does not qualify me to say much about it.Still.My "up-to-now" above suggests that this is now my favorite English Tao Te Ching, and that would be an accurate suggestion. Le Guin's language conveys the meaning (if that's the correct word) of Lao Tzu (Laodze, Lao-tse, etc.) in a way I find particularly apt to that meaning.I will not comment on what the "meaning" is, because that is something that you must discover for yourself if you are to get any value from it; and besides, I am not sufficiently expert to do other than make a fool of myself. But whether it is "meaning" or not, it is there, and Le Guin's rendering brings it to us as well as any I've read.

This book presents the general physics of fluid metals, in an understandable form. Moreover than that, the book provides extensive insight to the Metal-Nonmetal (MNM) transition. Unfortunately, the book really only emphasizes on Mercury and Selenium metals. But the general ideas are maintained.

Review

“A poetic and energetic vision of a new way to experience life—the power of the future made present today. It is a joy and relief to read a book about spirituality written from the viewpoint of unity, presence, and love. This is an important book, one that looks toward the integration of the wisdoms of the earth and sky cultivated over the past 15,000 years. Vaughan-Lee suggests that in order to liberate the love, life, and laughter that are already ours, we need to break down any artificial, conceptual, religious, or materialist barriers that prevent us from experiencing them.” —Neil Douglas-Klotz, Ph.D., author, The Genesis Meditations: A Shared Practice of Peace for Christians, Jews, and Muslims“... a visionary book and a daring one! Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee is a rare and hidden mystic of our time, a true seer who helps us to see that which our ordinary perception cannot perceive.... (a) courageous vision of the gravity of the modern predicament as well as the profound possibility for healing on a large scale.... conveys the importance of each individuals contribution to this healing, and passionately urges us to take responsibility for our own hidden knowledge and our necessary role in healing the planet ... a revolutionary book for the bravest of hearts and the most open of minds.” —Mariana Caplan, Ph.D., author, Halfway Up the Mountain: the Error of Premature Claimsto Enlightenment“If you want to learn how to be in service to the planet, Spiritual Power is an invaluable book. Vaughan-Lee shows us how we can direct our energy and light to create change. He shares his deep and profound insights about the true definition of power in a way that creates questions and answers as we move to the next evolution of consciousness. A brilliant and much needed book!” —Sandra Ingerman, author, Soul Retrieval and Medicine for the Earth

Sometimes when you read a book, you walk away from it seeing everything around you differently, perhaps only slightly, but even so, the things you pass by on the street appear as if they have a new life to them. I tend to think this means that something within the book is alive, that it has a resonance with life in some way. This is one of those books. It is certainly, as well, a book for the Anthropocene and is for anyone with interest to engage with or meditate on a deeper understanding of the ecological crisis of our time and beyond. As the introduction says, "This esoteric knowledge belongs to our heritage and to the need of the moment."But how can a book be both practical and profound? This one is even grounded, I would say, and yet focused on what cannot be seen. The first time I read this book, I was mesmerized. With each reading, the deeply practical nature of it comes forward more and more. The esoteric quality feels more and more ordinary, and yet the magical, mesmerizing effect does not fade. Rather, the ordinary deepens. In short, I highly recommend it.

This book spoke to my heart. Not only is it beautifully written, it describes with graceful precision and simplicity the ancient spiritual truths that we have forgotten. As with his other books, Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee, generously shares a depth of understanding and wisdom that he clearly embodies. I highly recommend it.

I cannot believe a book like this was even written. Just stunning. Each page is a gold nugget of intelligence into the artistic process... and life. It's taken me months to read because I keep reading and pausing to reflect on the insights. Artists are vital and important and the author unpacks something rarely examined -- PROCESS. Artist or not, this book will improve the way you see and exist in the world.

Indepth book well written referencing the factors that contribute to the creative process and what an artistic journey involves. I purchased this based on the recommendation of the artist Deborah Stewart who also has a book on Amazon related to abstract painting using acrylic and pastel. Author also talks about the psychological aspects of an artists journey. As an emerging artist, I would have been more prepared on what to expect and how creativity emerges if I would have read this book. Advanced artists can relate to the experiences described or reminded about the pathway to creativity. New artists or those who wish to tap into the creative process can develop new insights. Sophistocated reading.

So far, I am loving "Trust the Process." I find it intriguing. The author said, "the ultimate goal of the creative process is an "enlargement" of imagination for all people. Yet, instead of expanding, most of us tend to confine ourselves to the limitations of habit. . . . I find that the most consistence obstacle to creative discovery is the average person's reluctance to become involved in free experimentation." What limitations am I putting on myself? Why do I feel reluctant to involve myself in "free experimentation"? Basically, I don't know how to do something so I am afraid to start. I don't want to start because I might fail and the possibility of me failing makes me procrastinate it until I don't have enough time to properly create. It is a frustrating path. As time goes on, I become a little more accepting of the possibility of failure. I am realizing that you cannot create art without that possibility. It's frustrating, but like the subtitle of the book says, it's a "guide to letting go." Now that I know a few of my limiting habits I just need to figure out how to adjust them to work in my benefitOne of the chapters was on training people to work within the creative process. The author mentions that personal immersion is vital. He then shares an example from some of the teachers he worked with. He explained that the teachers were able to "describe how there is a pattern to the way they face every new art experience with resistance and fear. They feel an equally consistent thrill and satisfaction after completing each new phase of work. Whether it is dance, storytelling, musical improvisation, painting, mime, or poetry, the same forces of creation move through the experience, affirming that there is something essential that cannot be taught when we focus only on specialized technical instruction."Shaun McNiff talks about how teachers are more resistant to free imagination. I thought this was interesting because growing up I had many teachers who would talk about imagination and try to bring it into the classroom. However, looking back at this I realize that most of the time they didn't succeed. McNiff goes on to say that the reason teachers resist is because schools are focused on training the literal mind and the way teachers meet this is to "demand clear directions and immediate applications." Then he goes on to talk about the school system: "Most of the educational system is established on the assumption that learning follows a logical and predictable pattern of acquiring knowledge." This is an excellent way of teaching things like math or science, but I believe that what our students need today is the skill of creative thinking. They need to know how to do things themselves, problem solve with new answers, and become a thinking individual instead of a mindless robot who just memorizes answers for a test. McNiff talks about adding in an education of the imagination, which is based on sustained encounters of uncertainty. When you are faced with uncertainty enough times you will find a way to handle it. With uncertainty it is difficult to use a formula and fit it into a neat box. It requires exposure, frustration and even failure.Overall, I have found this book very interesting. Shaun McNiff has a lot of excellent points and tips when trying to teach and figure out creativity. More often than not, it is yourself that gets in the way of your creativity. We just need to learn how to get past ourselves and "Trust the Process."

I really enjoy this book. It is not a how to. It does not have pictures. It is just thoughts about creativity, thoughts about how letting go and allowing the art to take place without preconceived notions. That is the true journey an artist strives for, to arrive at the place where new discoveries happen. There are also comments that teachers may find interesting. Art education is very restricted with mandated assessments, etc. That leaves little opportunity for true creative thinking to occur.

What a thought-provoking and inspired book that just drew me in and helped ease some of the "lonely weird" ways I've been feeling lately. Mr. McNiff's perspective has helped me open up to my identity as an artist and the daily challenges I face to express feelings, thoughts and prayer in my art.Thank you for caring enough to write this wonderful and challenging book!Blessings, baltchik.

This book was suggested to me by an art teacher. It is a wonderful book for anyone who can't remember why we make art to begin with, and everyone else! It sits next to my bed and is referred too often. The book could have also been named: Stop Thinking so Much.

Inspiring and supportive of the creative process. Shaun has been there and truly understands the subtleties of thought and surrounding influences that can pervade the creation of many types of art making. I found his book so illuminating and his ideas personally helped remove me from a self imposed prison of 'shoulds'. Thank you for this book Shaun.

I have read this years ago,, and this time sent it to a friend (artist) who has been having trouble getting re-vitalized.. It's a lesson in get going, and you'll find the way.
