This is a fun coloring book with lots of interesting images. It might be more correctly referred to as manga as anime generally means that there is a cartoon animation associated with the book. Manga is a whimsical drawing or comic. As far as I can tell, there are no cartoons with this book but, to a degree, for the coloring world, this is probably pretty much a nit issue.What is more interesting about this book is that rather than giving us a second copy of each image (something that the publisher Jade Summer does with their books), in this case, the second image actually has some finer details added to the face. Particularly to the nose and mouth of the character studies. It is amazing the difference it can add. My video will show all images but I have only included both photos of one image to show the difference. The rest of the images are of the more simple style.The designs are really cute with lots of detail. They are not intricate or hard to color. For fans of this style (which I am), it is a really fun book. The boys and girls (younger and older teenagers rather than the children in the Chibi books by this imprint) look like they are having a lot of fun just being kids.You can receive a digital download of the book as part of the purchase of the print copy (instructions in the book). While printing those copies is a great plus, I will be reviewing (and videoing and photo images) from the print copy.This is what I found in this coloring book:While there are 25 unique designs in the book, because of the changes to the second copy (see above), you can have fun coloring all 50 pages along with a couple of bonus pages from other booksPrinted one side of the pagePaper is typical inexpensive quality by CreateSpace printing: white (with black printed on the back of each page), thin, slightly rough and non-perforated.The designs do not merge into the binding. There is a thick framing line on each of the design pages,There are is a thumbprint index of all images at the front of the book.Glue BindingCreate Space Paper/Media QualityWhile the back of the is printed black to show less bleed through, be aware that there is bleed through and protect your work. I like to use a blotter when working in this type of book. I use a page of card stock or several sheets of heavyweight paper under my working page. It keeps seeping ink and marring dents from ruining the pages below.Alcohol-based markers bleed through the page quickly.Water-based markers bleed through in spots.Gel pens and India ink pens leave shadows on back of the page. India ink can bleed through if you apply heavily or multiple coats.Coloring Pencils work fairly well with this publisher’s paper provided you don’t press extremely hard while coloring. I find that I can layers the same color for deeper pigment or multiple colors and blended easily with a pencil style blending stick. This is true of both oil and wax based pencils. I have also found that hard lead pencils leave dents through the paper.
This is a nice little book. From Halloween to an angel meeting a devil. Cat people and a fox that is similar to InuYasha. Mermaid of course, what is a coloring book without a mermaid? One school room picture that could have come out of Bleach if they were anime guys. The usual big eyes and very long hair.Although I'm usually a fan of double page books, I did notice something different. Usually, they book is divided in half so you can easily split it with a friend, but these are one after the other. Something it might take you awhile to notice: SPOILER ALERT...in each of the two pictures the mouth is different on the main character! I'm not sure why this is. For one thing, like Nancy Drew books and Disney movies, there is no Jade Summer, Carolyn Keene or one animator. In the movies, the animators are actually listed. In books, not so. Various authors for Nancy Drew and artists for Jade Summer are not given credit. Maybe so one came up with the body of the drawing and someone else does the faces, perhaps even a third party for backgrounds. The point is, at least in the Jade Summer coloring books, there are 'Easter eggs' and you get to find them.For those who need to know these things, the paper is a pretty good weight on it's one. Thinner that some, thicker than others. I take my books apart and copy onto cardstock and put the book back together (which is why I don't need two of each page to begin with). The pages are single-sided with black on the back. Some don't like that for some reason, but the black doesn't bother me. Just a head's up.I do wish there were books with manga and anime males, esp based on the animes themselves. However, females are 'in' right now.These are the kind of pictures that children can color with crayons and adult colorists can really get their teeth into, so it is fun to share and color with the whole family.At this price (3.99 when I ordered it) it is a good deal.
Another fun coloring book by Jade Summer. I actually received the digital version of this book, but since I love owning a paperback and I love this book so much, I purchased the paperback version also. This anime coloring book is so fun because even though it looks like we get 2 of the duplicates like all of other Jade Summer books, the expressions are slightly different so it's more fun to choose which version I'd like to color first.This book is fun not only for adults but for kids also. And most of all, I love that this book and other books by Jade Summer are printed single sided so I can use markers (with cardstock behind it) and won't ruin the page behind it.
I received Anime as a free PDF for an honest review. This is my true opinion and no one made me give a positive review.Jade Summer has done it again. I absolutely love Anime art. This book didnt disappoint me. As I've stated before, Jade's books can be enjoyed by Adults and children. My granddaughters love coloring with me. Their favorite books are Jade Summer. I also purchased this book. I like having the books also😊
My books arrived kind of curled up...like, the black ink from the backside warped the page a bit. I like 90% of the pictures/art...but I’m seeing some repeated figures and outfits with minor changes. Now that we can only purchase the paperback from here on Amazon, I’m being picky about the Jade Summer books I buy.
Another great book. I prefer their books with people. With this one you get two of each images but the first one has the traditional anime nose and mouth and the second one has a realistic version.
I don't find the non-anime copy of each picture appealing so it's weird to have to see them after each page. The pictures are all good though and fun to color if you're into the anime style! I'm sure for some people it's nice to have that extra copy and the art style on them is really cute it's just not my personal aesthetic preference. I love the mix of fantasy, slice of life, and other genres!
